Editorials Research

I have been researching different editorials through the internet to find ones that inspire me so I can reflect on them to direct me in the right direction.

The Rumpus Room

This first editorial is based on the company called The Rumpus Room which is a luxury bar in London. They have used their editorial to promote their bar.

In my opinion this editorial is really strong, it is very descriptive and has very good use of images throughout. The way they have used the letter 'R' as a focus point has turned out very successful. The use of Photoshop within this editorial also looks very sharp and neat. The picture of the girl in the top left hand corner looks quite funky which is good, they have clearly used Photoshop to duplicate the layer and changed the opacity to a lower number.
The use of colour in this editorial also looks very good, there is not much colour as majority is in black and white but looks effective. It is very good how they have used just a splash of colour in the big letter. This really promotes the letter 'R' which is clearly important as the title of the bar begins with the letter 'R'.

AFA

This editorial has been made as inspiring poster designs from a Austrian Agency Studio for the company AFA.

This editorial is really inspiring as its really different and quirky.  The image in the background is very plain and colourless which is good because it doesn't distract the reader from the text on the editorial; however they could of tried using an image which is bit more exciting and approachable. The use of text is very thought out and successful. I love how each bit of text is all laid out in a different unique way, some of the text is straight, diagonal and even horizontally. I really like the fact the block of words all start in a mid sentence for example one starts with 'But ...' and the other starts with ' And ...'.  I think the colours of text is good, the only improvement they could make is trying to change to black text when its on the model as its difficult to read.

UNIF Catalogue

This is an editorial for the magazine UNIF.

I think this is one of the most unique and inspiring editorials, it has such a young and quirky feel about it. In my opinion this editorial portrays quite a serious message for the readers and this piece has really brought the message across. The use of photography is really strong, I like how the pose of models highlight the bone structure and places that have deep shadows. The fact the imagery is in greyscale is a good idea, this makes the text of the editorial the main focus point and its not distracting. The use of text is really strong as well, the font is very natural and not distracting. Underlining the text makes it highlight the importance of the quote.

His work is so unique, fresh and flawless, he has made many amazing pieces of work which have landed him with many clients such as; Channel 4, The Guardian, World Wrestling Entertainment, The Premier League and Unichef & so many more.

His style of work is very diverse and always looks very distressed which creates very organic and individual work. Ben's passion for the creative industry and forward thinking led to him having his own book released.

His work inspires my own as I love his quirky and messy style, his work looks really rushed but has amazing detail and a great imagination to create his pieces of work. The majority of his work is made up from line drawing and Photoshop. His work ranges from digital to hand illustrations.

Her work is very simple and minimal which is what makes her drawings so strong and popular. She puts so much emphasis on just one or two lines throughout her drawings - this captures the moment of her inspiration. She is extremely talented and creative - this makes her work so effortless and beautiful. She obtains most of the inspiration from magazines, fashion, bloggers and books.

Her work really inspires me as I love how simple yet effective her work is. The way she pronounces and demonstrates the work of lines in her work is great. The colours she uses are also very simple and tends to be blacks, reds and whites.

Colour Pallette

This collection and these colours represent my final theme for my Final Major Project. Slavery is my theme – these garments have a very old feel, and the colours all remind me of the slavery times and the old vintage feel.  http://www.fashiontrendsetter.com/v2/2016/09/26/etro-springsummer-2017-collection/

Menswear Essential Colour SS 17 Directions

These mustard yellow and muddy brown colours are very much within my colour palette; they aren’t necessarily the same styles of clothing but the colours are a match.

All these colours are part of my colour palette for my slavery theme, these are very different but unique to my theme, they include;

-         Toasted Toffee

-         Burnt Rouge

-         Springtime Chartreuse

-         Apricot Nude

-         Deep ink denim

All these colours are very dull and faded out which is all part of the slavery theme.

Slavery Colour Palette from Google

These are exactly the colours that will appear within my collection on my theme slavery. All these colours together correspond together.

Trend Boards

As part of my research I have tryed to find different trend boards as inspiration so I can produce my own trend board which is related to my own final major project theme.

I have chosen this mood board as inspiration for my own, I think what I like most is the fact it does not have squared pictures all over the page - it is all merged together and positioned really well. The colours shown throughout this trend board are very strong, you can clearly see the theme of the colours. The positioning of the model in the middle also makes this piece really distinctive and successful - she's the main focus point which makes it look like there is so much going in the trend board.

This Trend board is very different from the first. The choice of images in this piece are strong and link together really well. The use of colours are used well and effective, they are dull colours but this makes the board look so interesting. However, I do prefer the first one as I don't like all the squared pictures - I much prefer them all merged and faded together. I do think the slight overlap of these pictures makes it looks stronger.
The colour palette that has been added on this trend board looks really effective. This is a good idea and will be adding a colour palette on my trend board.

This trend board is completely different. This board was made by being scanned into Photoshop.

The use of images look really effective and they really go together. I love how they have been positioned across the page and how they all overlap together.

However, I think this trend board should include a colour palette to define the theme a bit more.

This is my final trend board I have created using Photoshop. You can clearly see each colour within my colour palette and from my research. The colours I have expressed in this trend board are shown as;

-         Burnt Rouge

-         Nude

-         Navy & Faded Blue

-         Burnt Orange

-         Shades of Brown

-         Yellow

-         Dark Purple.

All these colours are and will be displayed within my collection for my Slavery theme. I believe this trend board has been produced successfully and I am happy with the outcome. The colour palette at the bottom I have made myself using colour of inspiration from my research and what will look best with my collection.

Photos for Mood Board

For my Final Major Project Mood board I researched into what images I should use to create my mood board look strong. As my mood board is based on the theme slavery I have to create a mood board which shows the message ' we are all equal .' I need my mood board to look strong as well as inspirational to the audience. These are some of the pictures I have chosen to put in my mood board.

This picture I used for my background of my mood board, I found this picture looked really effective for my theme as the colours are very delicate and doesn't distract the message in my board, I have also faded this picture out slightly.

This is the picture I used to get my message across in my mood board. I actually removed the whole picture and background, I have just kept the writing. I have positioned this in the middle of my mood board as a focal point.

I included this picture as I needed to show garments or something that relates to fashion. I thought this outfit worn by the model really relates to my colour palette and theme contains the same patterns that occur throughout my sketchbook.

This picture represents freedom in my mood board. I thought this picture really goes with my quote to make a statement. I have only used the outline of the hands to make its more prominent.

This mood board Is my final board put together and it has three images on but looks SO much better; it literally has about a thousand of words just in one picture. In the mood board I have Photoshop skills like; polygon lasso tool, magic wand tool, cloning tool and a few more. The background I choose for this mood board, I thought was very delicate, I love how the colours are very faded like an old effect. The 3 three images I choose were;

o   A picture from a runaway collection modelling ‘slavery inspired’ garments

o   A picture of the hands tied in a rope

o   A quote which speaks ‘WE ARE ALL EQUAL’

I choose these pictures because they all really correspond with each other and really display the theme very well. However by redoing my mood board three times, I have now changed my theme which is now my final theme. My final theme has changed from Monochrome now to SLAVERY.

Mood Board Inspriation

For my research I looked at many different mood boards for inspiration and to help produce my own.

This is one of my mood boards for inspiration, this mood board is really strong especially with the overlap and how they are faded. The colour palette are very similar to my slavery theme as my colour palette will be very dull colours.

There is a lot going on in this mood board which makes it very effective; they have been positioned in a way that makes it clear what the theme is.

This mood board is slightly different as it is mostly  made from different squared pictures instead of over lapping. I do like how all the pictures are all different sizes. This mood board looks quite plain but it very strong... you can clearly see the theme and the colour palette throughout the mood board.

This mood board is so inspiring and different. The fact its in greyscale also makes it really effective and looks really professional. The choice of pictures really compliment each other as they are all very similar. I really like the layout of this board by how some of the picture over lap to make it look quirky.

My final mood board is very different to my first attempts, even though there is less going on I have used and shown a lot of different skills in this mood board. I have managed to show an important message using words highlighting ‘WE ARE ALL EQUAL.’

The first layer of my board has been copied and pasted onto my canvas to make my background. I have changed the opacity of my background to 65% to create a faded out effect.

Again, the layer with the model has been pasted into my board and feathered out – I have included this model in my final board because I wanted to try get the effect of the fashion trend circling around my colour palette.

The text I have added to my board was slighting more complicated to insert. This was because I selected words from a picture which had a lot of detail in the background so this meant I had to use the magic wand tool to take the words out of the background and then paste them on to this layer.

Finally, the picture of the man’s hands tied in rope is one of my favourite pictures as it really sends a message about what my theme is about. I used the polygon tool to take the figure of the hands out of the background. After, I pasted it onto my background layer and placed in where I wanted it. When I positioned it on the board I then realised the ends of the ropes didn’t reach all the way across my page so instead I had use the clone tool to create a clone of the rope to drag it across to reach each end of the page.

Inspriation Photography

I have chosen this image as I like the powerful effect that Photoshop has created. I think I would like to create something like this but manipulate this into my theme earthy minerals. However I do like the black and white effect as it creates quite a silent atmosphere.
I also really like this image how they have manipulated a picture into the silhouette of the model. With this idea I could also place an image in the silhouette of my earthy minerals outfit.

This image is a favourite of mine, the face has been merged with animals (bird) using Photoshop.  This really matches our theme earthy mineral, I can merge animals in to my outfit in the photo.

This image is very different and inspirational, the way they have used Photoshop to merge the head shape into a mountain like figure. This picture itself really represents our theme of earthy minerals. If I was to make my own version of this image I would try and apply tiny bits of colour to lighten up the image.

These picture are very dynamic; the use of black and white is very extinctive. They create such an atmosphere which is very silent. The use of Photoshop is very cool and well used. My favourite photos of all these is where the parting of hair lines up with the wall. These picture don’t really match my theme earthy minerals but I could manipulate by using coloured back ground that match my theme.

I really like this affect that has been applied using Photoshop; they have used images of trees and mountains and inserted it into the silhouette of the model. The images they have used in the back ground else already represent our theme earthy minerals. I would be interested in creating my own version of this using my photos I’ve already taken, I will collect images that I can put in the silhouette and insert them using Photoshop.

CAD

NOTES FROM LESSON AND RESEARCH ON PHOTOGRAPHY RECAP

Aperture sizes – F stop
(Bigger the whole, smaller the number)
Large Aperture = More Light
Small Aperture = Less Light

Depth of field
Greater depth of field = everything in focus
Shallow depth of field = one object in focus

Shutter Speed
It is measured in seconds – amount of time shutter is open.

ISO

ISO is the sensitivity of the image sensor of the image sensor of film to light

High ISO = More sensitive to light

Low ISO = Less sensitive to light
Composition
Composition describes placement of relative objects and elements in a work of art. Consequently, composition is a key aspect of a good work of art.

Rule of Thirds

The rule of thirds is applied by aligning a subject with the guide lines and their intersection points, placing the horizon on the top or bottom line, or allowing linear features in the image to flow from section to section.

.In Photoshop if you collect images from the internet you have to change the pixel number to 72 instead of 300.

The higher the number – better quality photo
